Alleppey houseboats through Punnamada & Kuttanad

Private houseboats from Alappuzha — palm-lined canals, paddy fields below sea level and village life along the water, with Kerala meals cooked on board.

Why choose Alleppey

Alleppey (Alappuzha) is the heart of Kerala's houseboat country. From Punnamada Lake the boats head into a maze of canals and rivers through Kuttanad — the "rice bowl of Kerala", where paddy fields are farmed below sea level and villages line the water on both sides.

Our Alleppey houseboat, Elixir – Carpe Diem in Kuttanad, has two air-conditioned bedrooms with attached bathrooms and Kerala food included. It's rated 4.8★ on Airbnb, and our guests rate us 4.77★ across 91 reviews.

What you'll see

  • Emerald paddy fields lower than the canal you're cruising on
  • Villages, schools, churches and temples right at the water's edge
  • Ducks herded along the canals, fishermen and canoe ferries
  • Punnamada Lake — home of the Nehru Trophy snake boat race each August

FAQ

Alleppey houseboat questions

Where do Alleppey houseboats start from?

Most Alleppey houseboats board around Punnamada Lake (Finishing Point) in Alappuzha. We share the exact boarding point and a map pin when you book.

What is Kuttanad?

Kuttanad is the rice bowl of Kerala — a region of paddy fields farmed below sea level, crossed by canals and rivers. Cruising through it is one of the highlights of an Alleppey houseboat trip.

How far is Alleppey from Kochi airport?

About 80–85 km, usually around 2 hours by road. We can arrange a car from the airport or your hotel.

When is the best time for an Alleppey houseboat?

October to March is cool and dry and the most popular. The monsoon (June to September) is green and quiet with lower prices. In August Alleppey hosts the Nehru Trophy snake boat race. Prefer open lake views? See our Kumarakom houseboats.
